In the music video for the Eric Garner-inspired “I Can’t Breathe,” Pussy Riot’s first English language song, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina are slowly being buried alive while wearing Russian police uniforms. It was filmed in Russia, but the song was recorded in New York, where Pussy Riot worked with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, Miike Snow vocalist Andrew Wyatt, and most impressively, punk icon and Voidoids leader Richard Hell, who effectively retired from making music in the mid-1980s. Blank Generation is the best that America has to offer.
