Casey Kasem, the voice of countless memorable characters over the years and a popular radio DJ, has died today at the age of 82. Kasem had been battling Parkinson’s disease and found himself at the center of an ugly family feud that led to several public incidents over the past months, including a report that he was missing. From KTLA:
“Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends. Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken. Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad.
With love, Kerri, Mike and Julie.”
Despite the recent public ugliness and the effects of his disease, Kasem’s legacy should outshine what happened at the end of his life. He was a mainstay of television and radio for years, working well into 2007 and still living on in classic recordings on Sirius XM and through his numerous voice acting roles, including Shaggy from Scooby Doo.
