Rae Sremmurd have a released a video for “Black Beatles,” their collaboration with Gucci Mane.
As one of the standout tracks on SremmLife 2, “Black Beatles” shows why Swae Lee has a solo album on the way. The hook demonstrates the keen ear for melody which earned him a songwriting credit on Beyonce’s “Freedom,” while his flow twists and turns atop Mike Will Made-It’s quiet storm production.
This isn’t to say, however, that the father to their style, Gucci Mane, doesn’t make his usual impression with “I eurostep past a hater like I’m Rondo” and other lines. Luckily, the brothers were able to enlist Gucci here for the visual, which features their typical frenetic and playful energy. Most of the shots are of them performing or on tour, and Gucci shows up to hang out with the brothers backstage and perform his verse live. There’s quite a few outfits in this video worth shouting out, but perhaps none more compelling than a toned Gucci Mane going mostly shirtless.
The way this track comes for the white, rockist version of stardom is part of what makes the message so powerful though, emphasized even more by Slim Jxmmi’s forceful vocal delivery and swagger that close out the track on a strong note. Watch it above.
