2016 has been a quiet year for the Wu-Tang Clan but don’t expect the same for next year, if Raekwon The Chef has anything to say about it. The Clan member shared his plans for a new solo album that he plans to release in 2017.
“LP IS DONE !!!!! #blades is sharpened. # 2017 release litted !!!!! I will always appreciate real rap…..#factual” he shared in an Instagram post that including a photo of him seated in a barber’s chair, getting a fresh edge up. The new project will be his first since 2015’s Fly International Luxurious Art and his seventh studio release after coming into the game with the now classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… in 1995.
Although he didn’t get into specifics like release dates and features, the news is enough to cause early excitement for any Wu fans, who haven’t had much to anticipate this year. The only major release from the once prolific crew came from RZA, who teamed up with Interpol’s Paul Banks for the collaborative project Anything but Words back in August. Aside from that, most news related to the Clan has been attached to pharmaceutical bad boy Martin Shkreli, the owner of the one of a kind Once Upon a Time in Shaolin album, as he teased fans by threatening to destroy the album before finally sharing a few snippets of it in early November. Hopefully Rae’s revival will inspire his fellow Clansmen to join him with new material of their own as well.
