The music world is still coming to terms with the terrible news D4L founder Shawty Lo has died at age 40. The Bankhead legend and father of eleven was killed in a fiery car crash early Wednesday morning while on his home from a nightclub. Though it’s been a couple of years since Shawty Lo turned up radio airwaves with “Laffy Taffy” and “Dey Know,” the 40-year-old rapper still remained a beloved and respected member of the Atlanta hip-hop scene, most recently releasing his single, “Put Some Respek On It.” HIs oft-delayed album, Still Got Units, the follow-up to 2008’s Units In The City, was also scheduled to drop this year.
Naturally, the hip-hop community has taken to social media to express both their disbelief and sorrows over the shocking news of Shawty Lo’s death. Future pretty much summed it up perfectly when he tweeted, “Legends never die.” The Freebandz hitmaker previously collaborated with Lo on his 2011 single “Bigger Picture” and Lo’s “Problems” last September.
Former D4L member Fabo also shared a heartfelt tweet upon hearing of Lo’s untimely death, simply asking, “Dear God, take care of my brother” before labeling Lo the “realest ever created.” 50 Cent placed focus on Lo’s 11 children while sharing his condolences, writing on Instagram, “Shawty Lo R.I.P my condolences to his family, he had a lot of mouths to feed.”
RIP Shawty Lo. 🙏🏽. Prayers to his family and friends. ATown Legend.
