Rick Ross may have to cut back on his boss-level of spending soon in order to catch up on his tax bill from the IRS. Apparently, the Maybach Music head honcho owes Uncle Sam a whopping $5.7 million in unpaid taxes, per a report by TMZ.
The IRS recently went back through Rozay’s earnings and taxes for 2012 through 2014 and found out he owes a whole lot of unpaid dues. In 2012 alone, the Boss racked up $4.6 million in taxes that weren’t paid while 2013 and 2014 will only cost him a more modest amount of $570,000 for each of those two years. According to the report, the IRS put a tax lien on Ross and, if he doesn’t pay up, they’ll recover the amount owed in one way or another.
We’ve seen stars accumulate pretty high tax debt over the years but few have been on the hook for an amount so high. $5.7 million isn’t the kind of money that a rapper can crank out a few albums and tour to pay off. And if Ross doesn’t thing the government will punish him for skipping out on paying them, he need only look at history to see other rappers who’ve gone to the clink over taxes. Fat Joe did four months in 2013 over $3 million, Lauryn Hill got hit with three months in the feds for skipping out on paying hers and Ja Rule did 28 months when his $1.1 million debt forced him into a concurrent sentence for gun possession.
Let’s hope Ross figures out a plan soon. Otherwise, he could wind up in a bad bind like some of his peers.
