RIP Static-X Frontman Wayne Static, 1965-2014

Wayne Static, leader of the band Static-X, has passed away at the age of 48. Static, real name Wayne Richard Wells, was a fixture of nu metal music and fans provided an outpouring of sympathy on the Facebook post announcing the musicians passing:

November 1, 2014 – Platinum selling musician Wayne Richard Wells, better known as WAYNE STATIC, passed away at the age of 48.

WAYNE STATIC was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X, who later forged a successful solo career. Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months.

No cause of death has been released yet, so all we have to go on is the sudden nature of his passing. Hopefully fans can remember the good moments and his family can find some sort of peace during these tough moments.

For me, I always factor Static-X into that period when music was highly influenced by the “future sounds” of the new millennium. When the press release mentioned Powerman 5000, that’s the first place my mind went as well. That moment when Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was on top and you could find a band like Korn on the TRL countdown. Insanity.

I wasn’t a big fan of the music, but it is always sad to see someone go so young. Especially when the talent is there.
