She may not be able to control her hands, but Selena Gomez should probably start keeping some social media posts to herself. That is, if she wants to tour in China at all in the near future. According to reports, Gomez’s two concerts in Guangzhou and Shanghai have been canceled after the Chinese government saw photos of her with the Dalai Llama from 2014. If the rumors are true, this wouldn’t be the first time that a major US artist has been put on China’s banned list for socializing with the Tibetan monk. Maroon 5, Bon Jovi, and Linkin Park have all had to recently cancel their concert dates there for the same reason.
While no confirmation has been received from China or Gomez’s representatives, according to Shanghaiist any potential ban would stem from this photogram of Selena and the monk in Vancouver in 2014.
They were both in Canada for an event, and Gomez apparently took a lot away from their meeting as she captioned the snap with “words of wisdom … #speechless.” As it was shortly after she and long-time boyfriend Justin Bieber split up, words of wisdom were probably much appreciated. If Gomez is truly banned from the country, whether for these tour dates only or for a longer period of time, it would be a shame. She posted on Weibo (the massive Chinese social media site, as the country blocks access to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) that she couldn’t wait to see all of her Chinese fans on the Revival Tour.
