Selena Gomez has a new album coming in October, so the promotion will soon roll. She got a good start yesterday with a teaser Instagram message. “This is my…” could mean many things. Her liberation from Disney or a blissful absence of Justin Bieber in her day-to-day existence would be a good start. Selena has not enjoyed the smoothest personal life, but she’s a pop star readying the world for her upcoming release. So, it doesn’t help that Bieber is running around and promoting his own album while complaining about his broken heart and implying how it’s all Selena’s doing.
Selena means business, however, and she spoke with Ryan Seacrest about her new sound:
“I’m not the best singer in the world, but I know how to translate emotion … I’m just finding my strengths now as an artist. I’m becoming a young woman and I’m comfortable with my sensuality. It’s just kind of not try-hard. It’s just perfect. I think, to me, that was exactly what I want people to see for the next chapter for me.”
Are you ready to peek at Selena’s album cover? She took off her drawers (and everything else) to pose in a non-try-hard way without clothes. This is a difficult goal to achieve, as taking one’s drawers off usually means a play for attention. But this album cover is almost artsy in the true sense. The image filter practically screams “1990s supermodel.” Need I remind you that Selena is 23 years old? Not to mention the tragic fact that she survived an on-off relationship with Bieber, who must be exhausting to witness in person. She’s earned a little rebellion.
