After giving us some of the best country music of the ’90s — hell, I’d go as far as to say some of the best country music ever — Shania Twain hasn’t put out any new music since her split with former husband and producer Mutt Lange. She’s hinted at new music for several years now, and has been enjoying a very successful stint as a performer in Las Vegas for her “Still The One” residency. Last year she even went on tour around the country, but no new album came.
Well, perhaps that is all going to change, because the country music festival Stagecoach, which takes place at the same grounds as Coachella in Indio, California, just announced that she will headline Saturday night of the event. Other, more expected headliners Dierks Bentley and Kenny Chesney will join her, on Friday and Sunday respectively.
In recent years, festivals have repeatedly been taken to task for leaving women off the bill, it looks like the festival made a concerted effort to bring them into the fold. It’s about time. Recently honored CMA new artist of the year Maren Morris is also on the lineup.
The festival takes place from Friday, April 28 through Sunday, April 30 in 2017. Passes will go on sale this Friday, 11/18 at 11 AM.
Festival-goers know that Saturday is the big, coveted spot on a lineup — it’s not the downswing of Sunday or the initial jitters of Friday. Everyone has been off work for a solid 24 hours. Does this mean Shania will be giving us new album in 2017 for real this time? That remains to be seen, but one one thing is for sure — she’s still the one country music loves. Check out the full lineup below and here. Fun fact: Cyndi Lauper is also performing.
