In his first Halloween as the host of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert pulls out all the stops to celebrate the holiday the right way. Not only does he come out fully decked in his “sexy teen vampire” costume that may or may not end up with him in a legal battle, but the entire set is completely changed to reflect the holiday.
The entire episode was a themed treat for fans of Halloween, from guests in full costume to sketches and jokes that revolved around the holiday. He even touched on that wild pumpkin that got loose yesterday with his opening bit (and some of the dangers with Halloween candy, like Bit O’ Honey).
Stephen then gets a few special trick-or-treaters, including a bit of product placement for Halo 5: Guardians with the help of Rob Gronkowski in a full Master Chief costume. Gronk then takes all of the candies, informs the audience about Halo 5: Guardians, and then yells at the children. Halo 5: Guardians.
We then get a nice segment on how to properly carve your pumpkin this season. It’s a slice of gold due to the demented nature of it all, but it’s also full of that Halloween spirit. Screw the man for telling you how to carve your pumpkin “the right way” or saying you’re too old to trick-or-treat. If a 30-year-old man can’t dress as a giant bunny and terrorize his neighbors by demanding candy for an entire week, there’s something wrong with this country.
Finally, after Charlie Rose shows up dressed as Frankenstein for the oddest interview of his career, we get the greatest highlight of the show: a special performance by Ghost. Yes, Ghost, The Swedish metal band that worship Satan and sound like Blue Oyster Cult possessed by demons, were live on CBS. Your grandparents were likely confused as they dozed off with the TV on.
