The Who may very well have been the biggest rock stars on the planet. But that was a long time ago. In the past 35 years, they’ve released three albums, only one of which went platinum in the United States. To an entire younger generation, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey are the old farts with the CSI theme songs and that inaccurately titled “Teenage Wasteland” song.
The Who still have some piss and vinegar left in them, though.
During his headlining set on Saturday at Glastonbury, the ever-humble Kanye West announced, “I am the greatest living rock star on the planet.” A day later, Townshend replied, “We’re going to send you home now with a rebellious, oh yeah [Ye?], who’s the biggest f*cking rock star in the world?” before launching into an impressive guitar solo.
Brilliant from Pete Townshend! Who is the biggest rock star in the world @kanyewest? #bbcglasto pic.twitter.com/XtxrZTQJbz
