Travi$ Scott’s long-awaited sophomore album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight finally arrived last week, and thus far it’s been a rousing success, cruising to the top of Billboard’s Hot 200 albums chart. There’s been some controversy, but beyond that the album is energetic, enjoyable and full of entertaining features from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, Kid Cudi, 21 Savage, Bryson Tiller, The Weeknd and more.
One name that was conspicuously missing was the album’s former namesake Brian McKnight. After the album previously had his full name in the title, Brian was removed at the last minute, leaving only his surname because an album with this many features — and borrowed tracks — probably cost more than enough to make.
To rectify that situation, we finally get McKnight and La Flame together for the 60 glorious seconds that is the Birds promo video on Apple Music. For the clip, the crooner sits at a piano in flowing, all-white linen and serenades Travi$ and a cage full of actual birds — most likely not from a trap but who knows — with his 1992 hit “One Last Cry.” It’s exaggeratedly epic, but Trav locked down an R&B living legend for a promotional video so maybe it’s just the right amount of epic. I can’t decide.
The best part of the whole thing might be the Travi$ fans who have no clue who Brian-freaking-McKnight is.
