The music world is still mourning the loss of Prince, and although the funky one isn’t here to wail on one of his love symbol guitars, he left all of us with enough unreleased music to enjoy for the rest of our lives. Some of that new music was actually played this week at a runway show in Milan for Versace’s Men’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection. Sounds like a random place for the posthumous tunes to debut, right? According to an interview with Billboard, Donatella Versace was one of Prince’s closest friends, and he would frequently send her music for her fashion shows.
Versace told Billboard that Prince sent her music for years. The music heard at the runway show this weekend was all given to Versace, and she explained why the moment was right to play it for the world:
“My heart was broken by the news of Prince’s passing — I am still in shock. I wanted to express my love and admiration for my friend who I miss so much. Celebrating him and his music at my menswear show seemed like the best way.”
The 11-minute instrumental mix is undeniably Prince with screaming guitar solos over smooth bass grooves. This is certainly only an appetizer compared to what our ears will enjoy from Prince’s massive collection of unreleased music.
