While it’s easy for some folks to forget, yes, Weezer are still around and making new music! And a lot of it good! Partially why their newer stuff gets swept under the rug is because some of the group’s spiritual successors picked up the ball for them and ran with it. Acts like sludgey surf dudes Wavves, who you can definitely hear some of the alt-rockers’ influence in. Well, now the two mega powers will be teaming up for a split EP coming out soon — available for pre-order now — with Weezer dropping an unreleased original and Wavves covering a classic B-side from the Weez.

For those who don’t know, “You Gave Your Love to Me Softly” is a song that was officially released on the soundtrack to the 1996 film Angus, but it has several versions that floated around during that time. A short and fast pop rock jam, it seems like the perfect track for a group like Wavves to cover, and judging by what’s posted above, that prediction is totally right.
For those who want a physical copy, the vinyl run is limited to 2,000 over at Ghost Ramp, but for now you can listen to the fantastic cover above, and hopefully a digital release will soon follow.
