Despite the popular opinion of most “die hard” fans, Weezer has actually been making some pretty great music in the past few years. 2014’s Everything Will Be Alright in the End featured the power pop and chugging guitars of yore from the Weez and production from Ric Ocasek, who famously produced both self-titled albums known colloquially as The Blue Album and The Green Album. Back in October, the band debuted “Thank God for Girls,” a fun, experimental song with a weirdo video that will scar us for life regarding cannoli, and now they are back with another new single: “Do You Wanna Get High?”

Described as another one-off single — the band says they are without a label and just seeing what works — the dueling harmonies bring back memories of the Weezer that many of us fell for so long ago. The lyrics are more zany, lovestruck Rivers Cuomo than deeply raw and emotional Rivers, but that’s perfectly fine for a single. Any fan of the band could come to listen to “Do You Wanna Get High?” and truly enjoy what they’d be hearing.
Now, if only we could get a label to give these guys freedom to make the music they’d like. Or just drop a hot surprise release on a random evening at midnight. These days, that’ll probably make a bigger splash anyway.
