Alessia Cara and Zedd‘s Taylor Swift-esque dance hit “Stay” has been plaguing radio for about a month now, and on Tuesday, we got the video to the buzzy single.
The clip has Zedd (a.k.a. Anton Zaslavski) pursuing Alessia Cara, who lives in the same apartment building as him. As the video plays back and forth like one long Instagram Boomerang, each frame changes only slightly — therefore, you can see the outcome of each action. The fulcrum of the video’s plot has Zedd stopping an elevator just as Alessia’s about to go out into the world alone, and boom, their whole world changes.
Shocker — soon enough they’re in love (just another one of Zedd’s are-they-or-aren’t-they video points). They’re playing pool, making a sugar mess with their coffee in a diner and driving down the road waving their arms in the air like the carefree souls they are. Everything’s great.
I’ll discuss the twist after the video, so I don’t spoil anything for you.
Did you watch that? Good. What. The. Dang. Flip. Just. Happened. Just as the video begins with Zedd waking up in the morning by removing a sheet off his shirtless body, the video ends with the opposite. After he gets hits by a car (the plot moves really fast, I’m telling you), the video ends with a sheet getting blanketed over him. Like he’s going to the morgue! WTF!
Why’d you have to go and do that to us, Alessia and Zedd?
