As one of the leading GOP presidential candidates, Ted Cruz spends a great deal of time exchanging insults with a tantrum-throwing Donald Trump, so it’s easy to forget that Cruz has a platform. Aside from his enthusiasm for bombs and guns, Cruz leads a family-centric campaign favoring religious rights. The problem, of course, is that Cruz often appears to be coaxing his family to play along. Results vary between supreme awkwardness and cringeworthy displays that inspire second-hand embarrassment.

Still, Cruz has maintained some “stellar poll numbers” that prove he holds a follower base. Cruz also has the unwavering support of his wife, Heidi, who has tied Ted in with the “face of God.” The obvious lead-in here would be a wry remark about Ted’s face, but that’s too easy. There’s nothing wrong with his face — it’s more about Ted’s unsettling expressions. Psychology Today even published a column about why Cruz makes people so uneasy. However you feel about Cruz’s facial expressions, Heidi uttered these prophetic words on the Vince Coakley Radio Show:

“When I thought about doing it for our country, it became very clear to me that our family must be in this race … we are at a cultural crossroads in our country and if we can be in this race to show this country the face of the God that we serve – this Christian God that we serve is the foundation of our country, our country was built on Judeo-Christian values, we are a nation of freedom of religion, but the God of Christianity is the God of freedom, of individual liberty, of choice and of consequence.

“And I think that’s something that this country really needs to be reminded of … and Ted is uniquely able to deliver on that combination of the law and religion.”

Who knows what Heidi is really talking about with this speech. Some outlets believe she’s calling Ted “the second coming,” which is a statement that also writes its own jokes. Luckily, Right Wing Watch nabbed this interview’s audio for your listening pleasure.
