Katrina Pierson Makes Excuses To Walk Back Her False Comments On Obama And Afghanistan

Donald Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson’s notoriety won’t likely eclipse that of her boss, but she’s working on it. Pierson’s talk show appearances have always been filled with hyperbole and many untrue statements. Lately, however, she’s been twisting so much history that one wonders why Trump’s team lets her loose, especially with her history of “half breed” tweets lingering in cyberspace. A messy spokesperson like Pierson only lends credence to the disorganized vibe of the entire campaign.

Pierson’s latest battle with facts began a few weeks ago when she blamed President Obama and Hillary Clinton for U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan’s 2004 death in Iraq. Pierson also pushed Trump’s current position that he completely opposed the war in Iraq, which is just as false as claiming that Obama was president in 2004. Subsequently, Trump Campaign Co-Chair Sam Clovis slammed Pierson on CNN and said, “I guarantee that won’t happen again with her.” But it did happen again. Pierson appeared on CNN to defend her boss’ claims that President Obama was “the founder of ISIS” — a doubled-down statement that he later called “sarcasm” — in her own way.

While speaking (in the above video) with anchor Victor Blackwell, Pierson blamed Obama for the invasion of Afghanistan in 2007: “Remember, we weren’t even in Afghanistan by this time. Barack Obama went into Afghanistan, creating another problem.” Pierson went on to claim that this happened “after 2007” when “Al Qaeda was in ashes” after “the surge” in Iraq. Pierson apparently doesn’t realize that President George W. Bush invaded Afghanistan shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

When Blackwell did a double take, Pierson replied, “I thought we were talking about the founding of ISIS. I mean, ISIS came out of the Obama side of the war. Is that not a fact?” Once again, Pierson tripped over history. The Islamic State began as the al-Qaeda affiliate in Iraq, several years before Obama became president. But Pierson now has an excuse for all of this factual error stuff. She’s apparently blaming “audio disruptions and echos” for her own historical inaccuracies.

And she just kept on going. Pierson appears to now recognize that George W. Bush sent troops to invade Afghanistan, but she blames Bill Clinton for forcing George Bush to deal with his failure to secure America.” Nowhere does Pierson admit to stating incorrect facts all over cable tv news.

Pierson may have learned this excuse from a pro. Trump famously blamed a faulty earpiece for his apparent refusal to disavow the KKK.
