What’s not to love about the upcoming second season of Ash vs. Evil Dead, Starz’s episodic continuation of Sam Raimi’s beloved Evil Dead films? Maybe the Television Academy decided against at least recognizing lead actor Bruce Campbell’s fine comedic work with an Emmy nomination, and maybe fans have to wait until October for the premiere episode. Yet that’s all fine and good because more egregiously bloody and violent Ash vs. Evil Dead action is on the way, and if the new trailer is any indication, Jacksonville won’t know what hit it.
Recall that Ash, Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) and Pablo (Ray Santiago) left the infamous cabin following the events of the first season finale. Not because they won, per se, but due to the fact that Ash decided to save his friends from Ruby’s (Lucy Lawless) demonic hands and give up the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, the “Book of the Dead.” So they didn’t really save the world, but at least the three were able to escape whatever kind of hell the Evil had in store for rural Michigan.
Which brings us to season two, in which Ruby runs into a little trouble and decides to seek out Ash’s help. Here’s a sampling of the two frenemies’ conversation:
RUBY: Ash, I had to summon you. Help me retrieve the book and send them back to hell.
ASH: You need my help? Here’s what I need. I need to be back in Jacksonville on my second keg of beer, and putting my spicy man-meat into a mother-daughter sandwich.
RUBY: Part of me is already regretting calling you here.
ASH: Get used to that feeling.
October can’t come soon enough.
