I doubt that Gilbert Gottfried will be invited back to Dr. Drew’s show on HLN at anytime in the near future. Not if the shocked looks on the faces of Drew’s female panel are any indication. Suppsedly Gottfried has made some comments in the past on Twitter in reference to Dr. Drew’s female guests and he didn’t hold back when asked about it on the air. From Mediaite:
He said, “You surround yourself with these hot pieces of ass, and it’s like––it’s kind of like you have a story, someone was killed in their home, and now we’re gonna talk to a bunch of girls that you’d pound like there’s no tomorrow.”
The women on the panel were just utterly speechless and couldn’t really respond to Gottfried’s wisecracks. Dr. Drew attempted to defend the women by citing their breadth of professionalism and experience, but Gottfried just kept going and joked, “Dr. Drew is better than the Playboy Network.”
One could probably bottle up the chill that passed through the hall at HLN and stop global warming for good. There’s a lot of nervous laughter, a lot of defending the professionalism, but they were still scrambling for the commercial break by the end of it all.
This is hot on the heels of Gottfried’s recent spat with Shecky Greene at the Friars Club, an incident where Gottfried told a joke so vile, it made the comedy legend storm out of the hall. From Heeb:
So, the report that I’d gotten was that in the middle of my set Shecky Greene got up from his seat and stormed out, which shocked me because I didn’t know Shecky Greene could get up out of his seat.
[Laughter]
I was quite amazed. He could get up from his seat and walk!
It’s an Easter miracle – he is risen!
I figure if I can get Shecky Greene out of his seat I can get Stephen Hawking..
The whole interview is really a gem, almost as much as the HLN appearance below. If Gilbert Gottfried has one claim to fame, it’s offensive to the point of circling around and being funny all over again. So even if Greene and the ladies of HLN don’t take kindly to his words, someone else is and they’re getting laughs from it all.
