TV shows and films about alien abductions usually break their characters into two specific camps: the true believers and the skeptics. But TBS’ new comedy, People Of Earth, takes a decidedly fresh approach. Created by playwright David Jenkins and produced by Parks And Rec and The Office co-creator Greg Daniels, the first episode of People Of Earth follows investigative reporter Ozzie Graham (Daily Show alum Wyatt Cenac) as he looks into a group of alien abduction survivors (sorry, experiencers). A skeptic at first, Ozzie begins to occupy a space in the middle of the divide after realizing that a routine car accident wasn’t as it seems. Was it aliens? Something else? Ozzie has questions and, in the typical fashion of Daniels’ other works, a collection of quirky characters by his side.
Intrigued? Here’s a brief glimpse at the funniest moments from the series premiere.
When we first meet our protagonist, Ozzie, he’s constantly having weird dreams.
He didn’t seem too happy about his latest assignment, either. And hearing about the different aliens only fueled his skepticism.
Yet despite Ozzie’s clear objections….
… his boss Jonathan needed that sweet, sweet clickbait.
So Ozzie made his return to Beacon, but the people seemed much more believable this this around.
Not only that, but he learned that his dreams masked something much bigger.
And we learned that it goes all the way TO THE TOP.
Back at Beacon, Kelly and Chelsea learned they shared a very similar close encounter.
And Gerry managed to bust Ozzie’s car out of impound…
… much to the chagrin of the local police department.
And when one of the aliens tried to fix things with Ozzie, there was a large bump in the road…
… one the local police was oddly calm about cleaning up.
How far does it all go? You can find find out by watching People of Earth Mondays at 10/9c on TBS.
