By now you’ve probably heard of Stranger Things, the Netflix series that has captured the hearts of basically everyone who watches it. The show is already a huge hit, and while a second season hasn’t been ordered yet, the network and those involved with the show are confident in its longevity. While the big behind-the-scenes stars of Stranger Things are the showrunners, the Duffer Brothers, a great deal of credit to the show’s success belongs to one of the other masterminds behind the show, producer and director Shawn Levy. Levy is an acclaimed producer and successful director, most popular for his work on the Night at the Museum franchise. Levy recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the show’s success – which, apparently, doesn’t surprise him one bit.
“The Duffer brothers [the writers] came in, and within 10 minutes I knew that these were future major guys.” Levy said when asked about how he became involved with the show. “So, we pitched it to Netflix, and within 24 hours, we had the whole season bought.” That’s an insanely impressive statistic right there. No pilot, no “we’ll think about it”. Netflix wanted the show immediately. He also totally called people binge-watching the show with the ferocity they have, declaring the show to be, “deeply addictive. I would read a script, give notes on the script, and be waiting for my inbox to deliver me the next script.”
Levy clearly knows what he’s talking about. Stranger Things is already one of Netflix’s most popular shows. And it has to be gratifying to know that his suspicions were right: people do love this show a whole dang lot.
