With consideration of what is currently happening in Dallas, this has not been the finest week for America. It’s something that Trevor Noah clearly knows, leading to one of the most fiery segments we’ve seen during his stint on The Daily Show. With the tragic shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota the past days, followed by the terror in Dallas on Thursday during a Black Lives Matter protest, Trevor Noah is right. America has a problem.

Using the mix of humor we’ve come to expect from The Daily Show, Noah seems to be aiming to have a Jon Stewart moment that pulls in everything from Mel Gibson references to the situation around Harambe the gorilla to highlight how there is a disconnect between how police act and how they need to act.

If anything, this segment leading into the events in Dallas show the two-sides how we see police. They’re either starting the fire or they’re running directly into it. That doesn’t excuse the notion of accountability put forth by Noah in this segment, though. It’s hard to know what the outcome will be following the events in Dallas, but hopefully it won’t all be swept under the rug.
