Hailee Steinfeld’s Masturbation Song Received Approval From Her BFF, Taylor Swift

Hailee Steinfeld grew up before our very eyes. She earned an Academy Award nomination at age 15 for her performance in the True Grit remake, and she’s modeled for international fashion houses such as Miu Miu. At age 18, Hailee is busting into the music biz too, and it’s a good thing she waited until adulthood to release this tune.

“Love Myself” isn’t an innocent little ditty about self esteem. This is a tune about getting busy with oneself. Playing one’s own fiddle. Strumming on the old banjo. You catch my drift, right? Here’s a sampling of Hailee’s self-referential lyrics:

Pictures in my mind on replay
I’m gonna touch the pain away
I know how to scream my own name
Scream my name

Gonna love myself, no, I don’t need anybody else
(Hey)
Gonna love myself, no, I don’t need anybody else
(I love me)

Hailee recently spoke with E! Online about how nervous she was to launch a music career. Considering the subject matter she’s chosen for her first single, she can’t be too shy. But Hailee said she worried most about letting her best friend, Taylor Swift, listen to the tune. This is understandable, because it must be intimidating to reveal a masturbation song to one of pop music’s biggest stars. Hailee said it was all cool, though, and Taylor was “very supportive.”
