I’m not quite sure how to take the video below. On one hand, I support any cause that allows women to have the right to choice. On the other hand, “HEY BRAH HEAR ABOUT SLIM DICK STEVE? #JEAH HE TOTALLY GOT HAAAANA PREGNANT. DON’T WORRY, THO, SHE GOT AN ABORTION — BRO CHOICE! — AND HE’S ALREADY HOOKING UP WITH ROWANDA.” Nothing makes sense anymore, except that frat bros are awful.
According to Ben Sherman, an outspoken bro-choicer:
Forcing women to adhere to the anti-choice attitudes of state legislators forces men to do the same, and will have serious consequences both on men’s lives and lifestyles. (Via)
But Sherman, can you explain, possibly with four reasons, why the anti-abortion bill “hurts straight Texas men”?
Your girlfriend’s/wife’s life will be in danger. Making abortion inaccessible for millions of Texas women is going to put them in danger if they ever need to terminate a pregnancy. Black markets for unsafe abortions will emerge, and women will be pushed into potentially fatal back-alley abortions. That’s your girlfriend’s life we’re talking about.
Your freedom to choose is at stake, too. While it is ultimately a woman’s choice whether to have an abortion, many women choose to make that decision with the man involved. Do you want that decision ready-made for you by politicians in state government? Not if you value freedom, you don’t.
You want to decide when and if to have kids. This bill will force thousands of Texas men into unplanned fatherhood by making it impossible for women to access an abortion in the event of an unplanned pregnancy. Even if you want to have kids, you probably don’t want an accident to make you a father before you’re psychologically ready and able to care for a child. If you don’t want kids, you don’t want the narrow, personal views of politicians in the state government to force you to have them.
Your sex life is at stake. Can you think of anything that kills the vibe faster than a woman fearing a back-alley abortion? Making abortion essentially inaccessible in Texas will add an anxiety to sex that will drastically undercut its joys. And don’t be surprised if casual sex outside of relationships becomes far more difficult to come by.
God. Being a man is SO tough. Never mind the fact that it’s basically another way of saying “responsibility-free abortions on demand by men” — we should be against “bro choice” because it’s called BRO CHOICE. Anyway, as for the aforementioned video, “Conservative videographer Caleb Bonham [went undercover] interviewed students at the University of Colorado at Boulder about being pro-choice. When asked whether the availability of abortion-on-demand made it easier for male students to score with women, both sexes said yes.” Caleb’s as convincing a bro as Steve Buscemi is a student. He never said the word “fingerbang” even once.

Wow that dude is bad at irony because that might actually catch on.
If they really thought this would help. they have rocks in their heads. It supports the forced-birther’s mantra that birth control equals promiscuity. And if they’re in it for the irony, nothing can top the irony of eight men in Washington deciding the reproduction rights and reproduction health laws of women without input from any woman.
Exactly. I’m all for sexual freedom and I’m pro-choice, but pro-lifers don’t need to hear that safe, accessible abortions will make it easier for teenagers to bang. This isn’t helping.
This issue has gone so far that there are several bad arguments that hurt the pro-choice point of view. One I read about was that women whose husbands were pro-life should refuse to sleep with them, and if that led to divorce, so be it.
Be smart, total war hurts all sides.
Ugh. They’re not helping.

True, but accidents happen. And an unfortunate side effect of the missions to shut down locations that offer affordable health/family planning services is the sudden unavailability of other means of birth control that can act as a second preventative measure, in addition to providing options for individuals who find cost an issue.
Condoms aren’t really 99.9% effective – it comes down to around 80% to account for human error. Keep in mind that women don’t use abortion as a means of birth control but as a last resort. They’re not fun to get.
What I’ve never understood about the pro-lifers, or at least a significant portion of them, is that they’re against abortion, but they’re also against any form of birth control. I think what they really want is for sluts to pay for their mistakes.
For fucks sake. I can’t help but think this isn’t going to help much. Thanks anyways bruh.
I’m not sure if he’s just being satirical, or if he’s serious. Which probably means he’s being satirical.
I feel that way 90% of the time somebody shares their political views.
Well, the first three are clear, cogent, intelligent points that are actually straight from the pro-abortion-choice platform. The fourth seems off.
I find it ironic that many pro-lifers are conservative republicans who are also against things like welfare so you have people having way too many children from a lack of birth control (even in monogamous marraiges; i.e the breeders from “19 Kids and Counting”, etc.) and yet when those people can’t support their children (because let’s be honest who do you know that makes enough money to support 19 children?) they no longer have any programs to take care of those children.
I see these jackass students who act like and discuss all things bro, and I want to fire their fucking asses out of cannons and into the nearest (dormant) volcano.
