Begun, the mini-console wars have. The NES Classic Edition captured the hearts of gamers with its ability to play dozens of classic NES games on modern TVs without having to eventually blow into cartridges. It was small, it was cute, and we love it. Now, Sega has countered Nintendo’s impending retro release with mini-Mega Drive and portable Genesis to celebrate Sonic The Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary which is available now.

The NES Classic Edition only holds 30 titles, so some felt it was missing some important games. Since both of these Sega systems have a large selection of games, that critique may prove that Sega once again does what Nintendon’t (especially with a slick SD card slot this system will feature).

Here are the Sega games available on both systems (major h/t to FunstockRetro for the list):

Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
Alien Storm
Altered Beast
Arrow Flash
Bonanza Bros.
Chakan: The Forever Man
Columns III
Crack Down
Dr. Robotnik’sMean Bean Machine
ESWAT: City Under Siege
Eternal Champions
Fatal Labyrinth
Gain Ground
Golden Axe
Golden Axe II
Golden Axe III
Jewel Master
Kid Chameleon
Mortal Kombat I
Mortal Kombat II
Mortal Kombat III
Phantasy Star 2
Phantasy Star 3
Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic Spinball
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog II
Sonic 3D Blast
Sword of Varmilion
The Ooze
Vectorman II

These are the Sega Puzzle games that are not quite as enticing, but hey.
