By looking at the picture above it may not surprise you to know that Julia Günthel, also known as Zlata, has been called one of the world’s most flexible women. She was told at the age of 4 that she was extra bendy and went to circus school four years later. But it’s not a lot of yoga that allows Zlata’s body to get into these pretzel-like poses as an adult. When she was featured on the Discovery Channel in 2010, it was explained that her ligaments, which generally harden with age, were as flexible and elastic as an infants.
Contortionists can generally either bend fully forward or fully backward, but not both. Zlata can do both. Here is Zlata demonstrating some very easy-to-do yoga moves, just for fun and relaxation.
Still, don’t worry if you can’t do this with your body. Consider it aspirational. Bendspo, if you will. Or, if you push yourself beyond your anatomical limits, Breakspo.
