Could Serena Williams Beat Anthony Davis In Tennis With Her Left Hand? He Thinks So

It’s only a matter of time until Anthony Davis can do everything on a basketball court. He’s already the league’s most prolific shot-blocker and most efficient go-to scorer from the interior. Once the 22-year-old becomes a legitimate three-point threat, refines his back-to-basket game, and gains a better grasp of defensive concepts, he seems destined to become one of the most decorated professional athletes of his generation.

Does that mean Davis could beat the greatest female tennis player of all-time in a match? We’re not sure, but The Brow seems certain of how a prospective matchup between he and Serena Williams would go.

In a recent sit-down for Red Bull with veteran hoops scribe Chris Palmer, Davis says he’s most excited to watch tennis at next summer’s Olympic Games – and that he’d choose winning a gold medal over being named NBA MVP.

What’s your favorite Olympic sport to watch?

It’s definitely tennis.  Kind of underestimated, their athletic ability and how hard it is.  I tried it one time and it’s tougher than it looks.

Who is your favorite tennis player to watch?

My favorite tennis player is definitely Serena. Her game speaks for itself.  She is more than capable of doing so (completing the grand slam).

Who would win if you played Serena and she just used her off-hand?

I’ll win for sure.  I don’t know, seriously, she’d probably win. I’m too competitive so I will keep playing till I win or get tired. I think she can beat me with her left hand.

NBA MVP next year or Gold Medal in Rio?

I’d say gold medal only because it comes every four years and you don’t know if you’ll play again.  You can get a chance to win an MVP every year.  I experience the gold the first time and there was nothing like it.

A self-effacing, team-first superstar? Yeah, it’s safe to say the New Orleans Pelicans really hit the jackpot when they won the 2012 draft lottery.

We agree with Davis when it comes to his prospects against a one-handed Williams, too. As for his extremely difficult pick between a Maurice Podoloff Trophy and Gold Medal, though, we’re pretty sure Davis won’t be without both for long. Not only will Team USA be an overwhelming favorite in Rio, but the odds of him eventually winning MVP are nearly just as high.
