Geno Auriemma Goes Nuclear On The State Of College Basketball

Let it never be said that Geno Auriemma doesn’t speak his mind. When the iconic UConn coach was asked about the state of college basketball, he let loose.

Aureimma doesn’t pull any punches here, nor should he, because he’s absolutely right. It’s not the defense or exceptional scouting that’s making most college basketball games low-scoring slugfests, it’s the archaic rules (and shoddy, uneven officiating). The facts support Auriemma’s argument. Scoring has continued to decline since the early 1990’s, and this year marks yet another record-low season. Factor in the plodding pace and you’ve got an agonizingly long, unenjoyable…thing that at times somewhat resembles a basketball game.

If one of the basketball’s most successful coaches thinks it’s time for a major overhaul, the NCAA should probably listen.
