LeBron James Is Expanding Into Television With An NBC Medical Drama

LeBron James, a professional basketball player and the best thing about the movie Trainwreck, is launching his production company into the world of television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, SpringHill Entertainment sold a scripted project to NBC that will revolve around a sports doctor.

The Warner Bros. Television-based production company has sold an untitled drama to NBC, which has handed out a script-plus-penalty commitment for the project about a brilliant doctor who specializes in treating the world’s greatest sports stars. Only when the doctor undergoes a health crisis, it forces him to rethink his approach to medicine with the help of a gifted sports psychologist. Renowned orthopedic/sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews is on board as an executive consultant.

This show will probably be bad, especially if it has all fake athletes seeing a fake James Andrews. “My god, it’s Brock Johnson of the New York Lions! His elbow has fallen off! Can Dr. Jason Anderson fix him and solve his own problems? Thursdays this fall!” Give me real players in crazy situations. “Doctor! It’s Tom Brady! His hair plugs have seeped into his skull and it’s causing blindness!”

Andrews is 74 years old, so it’s doubtful the doctor on the show will be a mirror image. Although, it would be compelling television if NBC dropped a 74-year-old man into the high-stakes, glamorous world of sports surgery, making it like a Nip/Tuck for sports. Lots of sex, drugs and million-dollar medical solutions as a senior citizen tackles his demons, like bad Jell-O flavors and an addiction to bingo.

Anyway, best of luck to LeBron in this endeavor.
