The Sixers’ New Reception Desk Is An Awesome Homage To Wilt Chamberlain

There are several things that are new with regards to the Philadelphia 76ers. Sam Hinkie is, of course, no longer the general manager. The team has added first overall pick Ben Simmons to the roster, and it seems like Joel Embiid and Dario Saric are also finally ready to contribute to the team. The Sixers also have a new training facility. The highlight of this new facility is probably the reception desk. How is a reception desk a highlight of a basketball training facility? Because of the wood used in making it.

The desk is made of wood from the court on which Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points. Yes, the very floor that saw Chamberlain set the record for most points in an NBA game, a record that still stands, is now a part of the 76ers new training facility. That wood has come a long way since 1962.

Now, you could quibble with the fact that Chamberlain played for the Philadelphia Warriors, not the 76ers. Or you could point out that the game took place in Hershey, Pennsylvania, not Philly. On the other hand, who cares? This is a super cool thing. It’s probably the coolest reception desk you will ever see. Now, if only the 76ers could find success on a basketball court that is still being used as a basketball court.
