Neil Gaiman’s American Gods doesn’t seem like something that would translate to TV easily, but at least we know Bryan Fuller’s adaptation is going to feature some solid acting. The latest addition to American Gods’ excellent cast is Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Legend) who will play Laura Moon, the wife of American Gods protagonist Shadow Moon.

Warning: the next paragraph contains minor spoilers for the American Gods novel.

In Neil Gaiman’s original book, we learn early on that Laura has been killed in a car crash while Shadow is in prison. Of course, dead people don’t always stay dead in Neil Gaiman books, so an undead Laura continues to follow Shadow, protecting him, while also working through some of their marital issues. I say this is a minor spoiler, because Laura is dead right from the first time we meet her in the book, but Starz is keeping her undead status close to the chest for now.

(Spoilers over!)

Here’s how the TV version of Laura Moon is being officially described…

“As Laura Moon, Browning plays Shadow Moon’s wife, who has been preparing for her husband’s pending prison release. Little does she know that she will go on an unexpected journey that leads her to an epiphany about her relationship and affords her a second chance to get things right.”

Browning joins Ricky Whittle (The 100) as Shadow Moon and the perfectly-cast Ian McShane (Deadwood, John Wick) as Mr. Wednesday. American Gods debuts on Starz sometime in late 2016.
