The First Trailer For ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Has Finally Arrived

Fresh on the heels of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Blu-ray release, the Disney-funded marketers for Lucasfilm surprised everyone with a teaser of the teaser for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story late Wednesday. The full two-minute video would premiere on Thursday’s episode of Good Morning America and YouTube to the delight* and curiosity** of Star Wars fans everywhere. Well, guess what? The first footage from the Gareth Edwards-directed Star Wars heist film is now online, and it’s fantastic.

Set before the events of A New HopeRogue One details the Rebellion’s secret plot that led to the covert theft of the Death Star plans. Felicity Jones plays an Imperial felon whose record includes everything from forgery and possession, to aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Or as she tells her interrogators, “This is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.”

Much of the teaser focuses on Jones’ character, as well as a few solid shots and lines of dialogue from a mysterious figure played by Forest Whitaker. However, the creme de la creme is Ben Mendelsohn’s high-ranking Imperial villain, complete with a white cape and a big chrome gun of some kind.
