12-Year-Old Lorde Covered Kings Of Leon, And It Was Predictably Awesome

Lorde is ridiculously talented and successful for only being seventeen. She has already won two Grammy Awards, and she is one of the youngest solo artists to ever have a number-one single on US charts.

Before “Royals,” however, a 12-year-old Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor wowed the listeners of Radio New Zealand with a cover of Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody.” You can listen to the performance in the video above, which was uploaded to YouTube two years ago and recently started surging online.

Most people would never want anything they did as a 12-year-old to be made public, like talent show performances or school plays, but this cover is really good. Pop music is so underwhelming recently that if Lorde decided to release this cover as a single, it would probably break the Billboard Hot 100 Chart easily. At any rate, it would be a welcome break for radio stations sick of “Anaconda” and “All About That Bass.”
