Here’s Lorde’s High School Band, Which Was Inspired By Fugazi And PJ Harvey

Rather than being inspired by the likes of Blink-182 and GET OUT OF MY ROOM, MOM, Lorde’s high school band had much loftier, artier ambitions. And They Were Masked, a self-described Fugazi- and P.J. Harvey-loving “future noir” collective from New Zealand, will forever be the trivia answer to, “What was the name of the group 16-year-old Ella Yelich O’Connor was a member of in 2012?”

And unlike Show Us Your George W. Bush, which is the political grindcore band I assume you played guitar for when you were a teenager, And They Were Masked actually sound pretty good. Have a listen.
