Police Release Images Of Kurt Cobain’s Shotgun To Quiet Rumors Surrounding His Suicide

While one can’t imagine that this is something anyone would want, conspiracy theorists finally convinced the Seattle Police Department to release photos of the gun that Kurt Cobain used to kill himself in 1994.

The SPD added the photos to a 2014 blog post that showed images from Cobain’s home taken on the day of his death. Those were also released due to numerous requests. The five new photos show SPD Detective Mike Ciesynski holding the Remington shotgun that Cobain used to commit suicide and can be seen here.

The photos came after CBS News requested them to “dispel a rumor…that the shotgun had been melted down to hide evidence in a supposed…coverup of a potential murder.” In the post update, the SPD provided their reasoning for never releasing photos containing Cobain’s body.

“Cobain’s family and the City of Seattle are seeking to block a lawsuit, filed against the Seattle Police Department earlier this year, aimed at forcing the release of a handful of graphic crime scene photographs. Members of Cobain’s family have provided statements to the court, citing the emotional and potential physical harm they may face if the previously unreleased images depicting the Nirvana singer’s body, are publicly released. In one of the court declarations, Cobain’s daughter says she believes the release of the photographs may ‘encourage disturbed stalkers and fanatical threats,’ like a man who previously broke into her home and waited three days for her to return, before telling her he was ‘meant to be with me because my father’s soul had entered my body.’”

Who knows if this will come down the theories regarding Cobain’s death. It does add another short addition onto the end of the story, though.
