In 49 of the 50 United States of America, June 7 is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day and National VCR Day. It’s also Who the Heck Comes Up With These National Days Day. However, if you are a resident of the great state of Minnesota, it’s also one more day, as recently announced by Gov. Mark Dayton. It’s Prince Day, y’all! Minnesota’s favorite son finally has his own day. The legendary musician, who died April 21, was born on June 7, 1958, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Dayton made the announcement via Twitter on Monday. His reasons, as if he needed any beyond “It’s Prince,” were the Purple One’s music, his legacy and iconic status, all of the awards Prince won, and “his role in creating the Minneapolis sound.”

So how are you going to celebrate Prince Day? Just because you might not live in Minnesota doesn’t mean you can’t partake. One way you could celebrate is by blasting all of the Prince B-sides and rare records that Tidal just made available on its platform; something to jam out to while you are enjoying mountains of chocolate ice cream. I’d say you could listen to the soundtrack to Girl 6 while watching the Spike Lee movie on your VCR but dude, no one has a VCR anymore. Well, except for your weird great uncle. Uncle Bill won’t give up that VCR for anything!

Here is Drayton’s official proclamation regarding Prince Day.
