Weekend Preview: Your DVR Is So Screwed On Sunday

By 09.28.12

Sunday night is loaded, and if you think you’re DVR is overbooked now, wait until The Walking Dead returns next month.

Homeland (Showtime, Sunday 10 p.m.) — It’s going to be an insane Sunday night with the return of several of the best series on television, top-lined by the winner of this year’s Best Drama Emmy, Homeland.

Dexter (Showtime, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Dexter returns for its seventh season, picking up exactly where it left off last season, with Debra walking in on Dexter taking out his latest victim. Spoiler Alert: She shoots him in the head and the series ends 45 seconds into the episode.

Boardwalk Empire (HBO, Sunday 9 p.m.) — I have loved Bobby Cannavale since Station Agent, but it wasn’t until last weekend’s Emmy ceremony that I realized that the “e” in his name is not silent. It’s cah-nuh-VAH-lay, and he is fantastic as this season’s big bad, Gyp Rosetti.

Good Wife (CBS, Sunday 10 p.m.) — The best drama on network television returns, and the season premiere will feature both Nathan Lane and Kristen Chenowith in what was supposed to be a recurring role until she was injured on the set.

666 Park Avenue (ABC, Sunday 10:01 p.m.) — This is Terry O’Quinn’s new nightime soap, in which he plays a landlord Satan who boots his tenants from their luxury penthouses when their soul-selling contracts expire. I’m not making that up.

Sunday night will also see the premieres of PBS’s new show, Call the Midwife, The Amazing Race on CBS, Revenge and Once Upon a Time on ABC, and Bob’s Burgers on Fox. If that’s not bad enough, the Sunday night NFL matchup on NBC is awesome, too, as the Philadelphia Eagles play the New York Giants. Buy a lot of televisions, and watch them all at once.

Doctor Who (BBC America, Saturday 9 p.m.) — In the seventh season fall finale, we bid farewell to Amy Pond and her legs. Everything leading up to the episode says she’s going to die, but as many problems as I’ve had with Amy Pond over the course of the last couple of seasons, I don’t think my heart can take that.
