Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ And ‘Jessica Jones’ Series Pick Up Writers

Last week Marvel announced they’re developing at least four series for Netflix, starring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. The storylines of those four shows will resolve in an Avengers-style team up series, The Defenders. Marvel, Disney, ABC, and Netflix have now likely lined up the writers for two of those series.

The Wrap reports Drew Goddard is negotiating to write Daredevil. He directed and co-wrote The Cabin in the Woods with Marvel’s golden boy Joss Whedon. He collaborated with Whedon on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel as well. Goddard also wrote the original script for World War Z before Damon Lindelof rewrote the third act with fewer special effects scenes to reduce the film’s budget.

Goddard is also a long-time Daredevil fan. A year ago he told Collider, “You’re talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his walls growing up. When I was 18 I still had the blood-red door with the ‘I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear,’ that was what I love. If we can find the right project, I’d love to do it.”

Looks like he found the right project.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight) will write and executive produce Jessica Jones. Three years ago, she was creating a drama based on the character which was rejected. The Netflix version is said to be a new incarnation, hopefully with none of the stink of Twilight on it. Jessica Jones doesn’t hinge her self worth on getting two sexually-ambiguous boys to fight over her, damn it.
