"Archer Time: TV’s 8 Best Animated Episodes Of 2013"
I liked the Bob’s Burgers episode “Topsy” better than “OT”, but then again they’re all brilliant in their own way.
I think OT should get it because of the b-plot of Bob in the suit, even if it’s a rehash of Marge’s Chanel suit. Bob turning from the always shit upon guy into someone people instantly respect was fantastic, and then yanking it all away and leaving him naked on a pier.
I am starting to get a bit of O.T. fatigue because of how often it’s cited as the best episode. Don’t get me wrong, I still love it, it’s just turning into The Soup Nazi or The Yada Yada for me, perfectly fine episodes that became a bit overrated. Personally, I think Boyz 4 Now, Carpe Museum, and Topsy are better.
Carpe Museum was my favorite. The wheezy kid with the asthma slays me.
So, Orange is the New Black, and Eight is the New Ten?
“Here are 10 of 2013′s finest animated episodes, ranked in ascending order.
If 5 1/2 is the new 8 then I’m golden.
Derbel beat me to it.
Something something Danger Zone
Simon & Marcy :(
I had no idea how they could possibly match “I Remember You,” but they did.
The goddamn Cheers theme should not make me get emotional…
Some bastard on here pointed out that scene gets a lot worse when you realize it’s a song about a sense of family and belonging, which are two things the Ice King is losing even as he tries to save them.
I’d give South Park’s Black Friday trilogy a nod. Even if the whole thing hadn’t been fantastic, it should be included for Princess Kenny and the GoT weiner song alone.
Second. GOT’s opening is permanently funny now with it’s new theme song lyrics.
Thirded. Butter’s feelings about game of thrones was exactly mine.
What’s with all the weiners?!
Not disagreeing with the top 5 and this ight have aired on to late to put on this list, but American Dad’s Minstrel Krampus has to be the best episode in two years.
Also Simon and Marcy got me into Adventure Time
Also, it was great to see Futurama end in the best possible way. It worked much better as an ending than The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Playthings.
Thought if the series had indeed ended with that episode, I’d have been OK with it. I’m just greedy and always want more Futurama.
Agreed on all points, TmF.
Though. Not thought. Ugh.
Always leave ‘em wanting more. That’s the trick.- Calculon
Splice in some reaction shots of me and shove it on the air.
*ice in drink clinks*
Nice to see The Legend of Korra getting some love. The show as a whole doesn’t compare to the brilliance that is The Last Airbender, but Beginnings is the closest the show has come to reaching those heights. Just an outstanding episode.
It took me about halfway through the first season to accept that Korra wasn’t as good as The Last Airbender. Let’s face it, that’s a pretty high bar and I enjoyed the show much more once I accepted that.
Thank you for not including any Family Guy or Simpsons on this list. I’m guessing #9 and #10 are Archer and South Park.
I still don’t understand why American Dad gets so much love though … that show is about as funny as Two and Half Men.
It depends on when your watching AD, its kind of had the opposite life of Family Guy in that it started off not great, but the last couple of seasons have been pretty funny
Yeah the first season of American Dad was awful. It starts picking up at the end of the season with Stan of Arabia, but the middle seasons are great. Been hit or miss for me the last two seasons but still a lot of real solid episodes. Can’t go wrong with Ricky Spanish.
Yep, I gave up on American Dad after the first season. The basic premise was, “I get it McFarlane, you don’t like Republicans”. The recent rave reviews of the show on this site made me give it another try and it has vastly improved.
STELIO!! STELIO KONTOS!!
Archer made the list but I won’t argue about it belonging on there twice.
Am I the only one who wants a Charlie Kelly animated series? Just as an extra on the sets, we don’t wanna kill the joke.
Ya… American Dad sucks…. But seriously, the shittiness of Family Guy and Cleveland Show make it so hard to sell my friends on the brilliance of American Dad.
Would have gone with the Molotov episode of Venture Bros, but that’s still a solid choice. Enrico Matassa is legendary.
I’d pick the Venturestein episode, but I love Sgt. Hatred’s line about the trees that disembowel scarecrows in Momma’s Boys.
Also great. I got a little weepy during Hank’s transformation into Jungle Batman.
OSI Love You is by far my favorite episode. Slap Chop, Bum Rush, Shuttle Cock, Tank Top, Afterburner…good fucking good. Love how the ep seamlessly jumped from joke to joke in The interrogation scenes…Doc and Jackson can meticulously plot an ep
I still think Snoopy is The Sovereign.
Now _that_ would be a twist.
I liked Once Bitten and Midnight Ron more than Live and Let Dine, personally. Archer arguing with low rent James Mason is the best.
I liked the season premiere, Fugue and Riffs, for working in the Bob’s Burgers opening alone. Everything else was a bonus.
I’ll second Midnight Ron.
Was I the only one completely underwhelmed by Live and Let Dine?
“Live and Let Dine” was actually one of my least favorite episodes of the season, so now I don’t know what to believe in.
Same. In part because it’s really the same as Skytanic. Though I’ve come around on it and replaced it with the getting Barry back from space episode as the weakest, mainly because of how hard I laugh at “child-murderer shouldn’t be hyphenated” line.
@TmF – Same here. I don’t watch any of those cooking shows or reality TV in general, so a lot of what they were trying to ‘send up’ went up alright, right over my head.
For the hell of it.
13 – The Honeymooners
12 – Viscous Coupling
11 – The Wind Cries Mary
10 – Live and Let Dine
9 – The Papal Chase
8 – Midnight Ron
7 – Un Chien Tangerine
6 – Once Bitten
5 – The Sea Tunt pt 2
4 – Fugue and Riffs
3 – Coyote Lovely
2 – The Sea Tunt pt 1
1 – Legs
Legs was such a perfect episode of comedy.
@ReasonablySober: Agreed. “Legs” was the best of the season. No doubt.
Yeah fuck, I’m partial to “Un Chien Tangerine”, but damn “Legs” was great. Krieger at his most unhinged yet most focused.
“Coyote Lovely” was my favorite episode of Archer and of the year in general.
Any episode with a scene that reduces my wife to hysterical cackling is OK with me.
I just watched that one and I completely agree. I was also amazed by how much conversational Spanish I actually understand. Plus, I loved the “Is Archer autistic?” running gag throughout the episode.
Hijo, no debes beber.
Ya tengo una madre!
I could do this all day, BECAUSE I FIND REPETITIVE TASKS SO CALMING.
How is a lorax-blowing treehugger like you anti-immigration?
No love for Regular Show?
Or Aqua TV Show Show!
Love Regular Show. The Thanksgiving episode this year was beyond bonkers.
Aqua TV Show Show was a top 5 ATHF season. “Piranha Germs” absolutely slayed me. “Merlo Sauvignon Blanco” amazing if only for Henry Zebrowski as Merlo.
Yeah it’s crazy how good rick and morty is after just 3 episodes.
def. a pleasant surprise that came out of nowhere.
It should have been an 11 minutes to start off, more jokes per minute adult swim style. I think it has a ton of potential, but every ep has felt long
It’s the family. Morty’s family is nowhere near as funny as Rick and his adventures are. Cut them out unless they’re part of the main plot and the show will flow better.
Boom. Ya fixed it, the family plots have been much weaker than Rick and Morty’s antics.
Gotta have at least one South Park episode on there…
Where is Gravity Falls? I feel like it would get a lot more love if it was on a different channel.
“Carpet Diem” was – is – great television.
It sucks that the best episode of Legend of Korra was like more than a year ago.
Beginnings in LoK to me was episode of the year if not just for the beautiful animation, but the story was great. Felt like the Korra writer put all they had in that two part episode.
I so forgot about O.T.! Excellent choice.
I like Rick and Morty so far, but hope that Morty’s screaming and Rick’s burping get toned down. They’re a little grating.
I’d say that I think Gravity Falls’ season finale should probably go up somewhere, but I dunno how many people that show’s grabbed yet.
I personally would’ve gone with “The Papal Chase” episode of Archer. Pam really got to shine in that one, and I think that’s when she became my favorite character.
Though I may be biased, as there were also two Gambit shout-outs in that episode.
And as a big X-fan, I have to admit hearing “what am I? Cypher, the gayest X-Man?” had me laughing for a solid 10 minutes
China, IL “Wild Hogs”
Aqua TV Show Show “Piranha Germs”
Archer “Un Chien Tangerine”
Venture Bros “OSI Love You”
The lack of China, IL support in the comments is very disconcerting. Amazing show.
It’s funny, but – and I might be alone on this – I feel the switch to a half-hour format has hurt it somewhat. It’s not quite as snappy as it was in the first season.
you guys should check out the Pilot for Attack on Titan it is mazing, it’s a great series
So we are gonna sit here and act like the last 7 or 8 episodes of Young Justice didn’t happen huh? Gonna ignore some of the best story telling and animated action huh? Okie doke….
Wally’s death hurt like a bitch.
I still get a little weepy when I am reminded that Young Justice got cancelled.
The best episode of Archer has to be The Honeymooners.
It’s got all the best lines that connect each scene together.
I keep saying that about Avatar/Korra, it’s the most goddamned brilliant thing Nickelodeon has done in the past 5 years and NOTHING comes close. NOTHING.
