As you may have heard, Monica Lewinsky recently penned an essay for Vanity Fair in which she apologized to the world for blowing Bill Clinton (and giving him rim jobs!) back in the 90s. She wrote: “I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened.”

Well, last night David Letterman had Barbara Walters on as a guest and the subject of Lewinsky popped up, prompting Letterman to express genuine regret for making so many jokes about a young, naive girl in her early 20s who allowed herself to be wooed by the most powerful man in the world.

“I started to feel bad because myself and other people with shows like this made relentless jokes about the poor woman,” Letterman said. “And she was a kid, she was 21, 22…I feel bad about my role in helping push the humiliation to the point of suffocation.”
