When I woke up this morning, my Twitter feed was inundated by Norm Macdonald retweets, and from the best I could tell, he was taking out his umbrage with Rolling Stone about something. Digging a little deeper to figure out what was going on, I came across this article ranking every Saturday Night Live cast member in history, which put Norm at 135 out of 141. Like, right behind Randy Quaid, who was not invited to the #SNL40 reunion show because he’s too busy concocting conspiracy theories and pretending to smash his wife on camera wearing a Rupert Murdoch mask.

The segment reads:

Macdonald clearly thought he was hilarious, and that counts for something — confidence is essential for a “Weekend Update” anchor. Unfortunately, he was just a Dennis Miller clone with no mullet and no jokes. Stare into the camera a little longer, Norm; maybe it’ll get funnier.

Poor form, Rolling Stone. The guy is one of the greats. The magazine later polled its readers, who ranked Macdonald at a much more appropriate No. 14.

At any rate, the original Rolling Stone article went live back on February 11, so I don’t know if it was just published in the print edition or what, but Norm just found out about it, and he is pissed. It looks like it started when he saw this tweet last night, which he then retweeted:

That was when the retweet sh*tstorm happened. Here are just a few of the good ones because there are far too many to capture:

Eventually, a hashtag was created:

If you’ve ever wanted to get retweeted by Norm Macdonald, now is probably a good time.
