This Video Sums Up The Awkwardness Of Watching ‘Game of Thrones’ With Your Parents

The imminent return of Game of Thrones on HBO means a lot of things to fans of the show and George R.R. Martin’s book series. Long-lingering questions will finally be answered, those pesky cliffhangers will finally see some form of resolution and my god, they’ve actually gone further than the books, this was our collective fear, wasn’t it? The thing is, Game of Thrones is kind of a weird show to watch around other people unless they are really, really into it as well.

The entire first season of Game of Thrones I watched in secret. Not intentionally or anything, but it was just really, really nerdy and, of course, there was a ton of nudity sprinkled throughout as HBO shows are prone to doing. Eventually my wife heard about the show and we ended up watching it together, so it wasn’t weird anymore. What was weird, though, was her mother coming to visit and deciding that the perfect time to start watching Game of Thrones was while staying at our house. I’m pretty sure that I just put it on and left the room because there was no way that I was going to be sitting there with her during that show.

This video perfectly encapsulates just how weird watching Game of Thrones with parents can be. I mean, look, we all have a perfect understanding of each other, but that doesn’t make watching sex scenes with parents and less weird. While we are all sitting around, eagerly anticipating learning of Jon Snow’s fate, there is always going to be that weird feeling of “god I hope that nobody walks in during a weird sex scene.”
