‘Late Night’ Writers Provide A Valuable Assist For ‘Jokes Seth Can’t Tell’

This will likely come as a massive shock to you, but Late Night host Seth Meyers is a straight white guy. “A STRAIGHT WHITE DUDE WITH A TALK SHOW?” you gasp before falling backwards into the china cabinet. Yup, those exist. In remarkably high numbers too. And as a straight white male talk show host, the SNL alum knows there are some jokes he just can’t tell. That brings us to the hilarious video plastered below.

On Wednesday night’s edition of Late Night, Meyers brought out writers Amber Ruffin and Jenny Hagel for a segment sensibly titled “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell.” These are the monologue jokes that the world deserves to hear, but maybe from someone else. It’s a pretty straightforward format: Meyers sets up the joke and Ruffin or Hagel will deliver the punchline. For example…

Meyers: A Swedish public television network is set this week to air “The Period Song,” a tune written to explain menstruation to children.

Ruffin: They didn’t say what style the song was in, but I’m guessing ragtime.

We may have a recurring segment on our hands. Or a solid case for Amber Ruffin to make the leap to Weekend Update in the not too distant future. Either way, yuks are to be had and a bit of NSFW content awaits.
