For those of us still mourning its demise, the 10 year anniversary of Deadwood marks the sad passing of a show that was cut down before its time. The gunslinging, backstabbing, foul-mouthed western never got the ending it deserved. Fortunately, there’s a new documentary short out to help us cope. A Lie Agreed Upon: David Milch’s Deadwood, is a half-hour look back on the show’s history at HBO, and the characters, themes, and influences that made it great.
If you’re one of those people who still hasn’t seen the show, A Lie Agreed Upon is a good primer. For everyone else, it doesn’t skimp on the show’s hallmarks; shooting, swearing, and Victorian brothel culture. So have another look at the show that introduced us to Timothy Olyphant, and a host of amazing catchphrases that I can’t repeat here but are definitely included in the video.
Fun fact, it appears that the F-word was used 1.5 times per minute of footage throughout the show’s three year run.
