First off, a song:
And now, Requiem for a Smug Game of Thrones Weasel (now with GIFs!).
One more slap, with feeling.
Reading is for fags.
– King Joffrey
Hahahaaa! King Joff fucked that book up!
He really showed that book who’s the king ’round here!
What? Sorry your Grace, could you repeat that. I can’t hear you! Haaaaahaaaaaaa! The King is Dead! Too bad we didn’t get his head first! Ha Ha!
My paraphrased feelings as expressed by Sam Jackson.
So happy to see Sigur Ros on there, and hear their version of The Rains of Castamere! I am a HUGE fan and saw them live last year and they were UNREAL.
Never invite your ex to your wedding day.
I was all choked up watching this episode.
I tried to get a buddy who does HBO Go over to tape him a la the red wedding reactions, but alas…
I knew what was coming and was still all worked up!
Interesting how they pretty overtly showed the Queen of Thorns stealing the stone off the necklace, instead of leaving it up to interpretation.
I thought it was pretty subtle. You only noticed because you were looking for it.
I dont think it was that overt. If you knew what to look for, sure… but to the average viewer, not so much.
Well, overt compared to the book, I should say.
Wait what? Non book reader here, please spell it out for me like I’m special.
I actually didn’t catch that. Was that off Sansa?
I don’t know what was really subtle about it at all, they focused on the goblet over and over and over.I haven’t read the books and I still knew for certain that he was about to get poisoned. Kind of took away from the joy in it, for me, honestly.
In the book, it was a hairnet with stones. It’s removed at some point, and only later do we find out the stone that was removed was crystalized poison.
In the show, it was that necklace. When Olenna goes up to Sansa and rubs her hair/neck, her hand passes over the necklace, and the front shot of her shows a stone missing.
So subtle enough that if you didn’t know to look for it, you might miss it, but overt compared to NOT showing it, like in the book.
This is how it went down in the book (hairnet = necklace)
“You do look quite exquisite, child,” Lady Olenna Tyrell told Sansa when she tottered up to them in a cloth-of-gold gown that must have weighed more than she did. “The wind has been at your hair, though.” The little old woman reached up and fussed at the loose strands, tucking them back into place and straightening Sansa’s hair net. “I was very sorry to hear about your losses,” she said as she tugged and fiddled. “Your brother was a terrible traitor, I know, but if we start killing men at weddings they’ll be even more frightened of marriage than they are presently. There, that’s better.”
I saw it too but of course I was looking for it. Every nonbook reader I know seemed to have missed it on initial viewing though.
oh man, these reversed comments are making for a fun read.
I hate this reversed comments format. It doesn’t make any sense.
Well I didn’t see it.
I’d call this a pretty significant spoiler.
@Hyrax Olenna Tyrell was the one who poisoned Joffrey. The necklace that was given to Sansa by Joffrey’s fool last episode contained a gemstone that was crystalized poison. While everyone was distracted by Joffrey humiliating Tyrion, she poisoned the wine.
I’m gonna miss that little shit. Who are we all gonna universally hate now?
Fuck that, Littlefinger is awesome.
I actually like Tywin..he doesn’t fuck around
Goodbye Westeros’ Rose.
So happy right now.
Kill ’em again! His soul’s still dancing.
From tears of blood to tears of joy!
On a repeated viewing, ya really get a good look down Cersei’s shirt. So, plenty of awesome stuff in that image.
I noticed that on the 2nd shot. It was glorious.
Shit, I didn’t notice Joffrey was dying until the second or third shot.
It wouldn’t be GoT if we didn’t get tits with our murders.
It’s a nice day for a Purple Wedding!
Joffery getting slap to Achilles Last Stand may be the best pairing ever.
Also, fuck off Joff; have fun in the 7 hells.
Joff died doing what he loved, being a fucking cunt
Best eulogy ever.
What type of people name their swords again?
& Ned Stark.
To be fair, Ned’s was passed down through the generations, I believe
I usually don’t pay much attention to episode previews, so I was surprised that they did the wedding this early,
ah well, more excitement for what’s coming up later!
Yer just bein’ a tease now, laddy.
what’s with the wordpress? I can’t log into my old account?
Watched with a group of people. No one actually believed he was going to die and then when his face showed up at the end, we all stood up and clapped. Farewell Joffrey, farewell.
I loved that little jerk though!! This show is totally gonna SUCK without him.
Man, they really turned his “assholiness” up ten levels for that episode… the writers are the real jerks!
As a book reader, and there is a lot smug factor here so forgive me, I’m more saddened by the lose of the kid who played Joffrey from acting than the actual death of Joffrey. The kid said he was quitting after this show and to be honest with ya’ll he was absolutely fantastic in the roll. One of the most despised characters in history and the guy who brought it to you is quitting. That’s a shame.
Jackie Gleeson really was fantastic. In most actors hands, especially most young actors hands, that role could easy come off as cartoonishly evil or just plain ridiculous. Gleeson nailed it every time. Would have been interesting to see him try his acting chops in another completely different role.
@JamaalCharlesRepairedKnees Apparently you and I have different opinions on what “Cartoonishly evil” looks like. I thought he was a great actor, that was poorly used sometimes with back to back scenes of him being a little shit. It got to the point where they were just SCREAMING at us “LOOK HE’S EVIL!”
Even Hitler wasn’t that unlikable, he’s poorly written and poorly used. Gleeson is a terrific actor and I hope he changes his mind and we see him again.
Well said. All the best to him in his future.
Also, fuck Shae! Amirite?
Agree 100%. And he played the everloving fuck out of that death scene. Very impressive work.
JJ Jr….totally agree about his death scene acting. That looked so real! That look like a real friggin person choking to death! His red eyes and red face with expressions. He really blew me away with that. Totally disturbing.
Best Reception Ever!
My exact reaction tonight:
But mixed with sadness, cause he was a great guy to hate….
Long live King Tommen. I assume that’s who was next to Tyrion at the feast. The actor grew a lot since we last saw him.
I think they recast him. In the books he is a lot younger
I believe he was replaced with one of the murdered Lannister cousins from last year.
I don’t think Jamaal’s guess is right, but he has definitely been recast. One of the better recasts they’ve done… the kid who played him before seemed sweet, but I wouldn’t imagine he’d be capable of playing a real role. I mean, I assume Tommen’s gonna have a lot more lines now than he used to.
I’m glad to see that Cersi is getting her petty revenge.
Man, she is such an asshole, throwing all that food to the dogs instead of the poor, just to spite Margaery. Mean meanie.
The shit doesn’t fall far from the horse’s ass.
I knew what was coming, (Book Reader! Stone him!!), and I still wanted someone to stab Joffrey when he brought out the dwarf show. God what a dick. Watching him die brought me so much joy I should probably be put on a watch list.
Fare thee well Jack Gleeson. You did a fantastic job playing the cuntiest cunt who ever cunted his way through Westeros.
What a way to praise an actor. “You were SUCH A CUNT, I love you!”
Well this is just the saddest episode yet.
Tell me your name is Barney Stinson and you believed that Joffrey was the Hero Protagonist of Game of Thrones.
I can’t say that’s my name, but i am Team Lannister for life!
This is one of those book spoilers that used a lot of willpower to keep because it’s like keeping joy from the world. And now the show watchers now, and the joy is shared.
That’s my only regret as well. :(
They really screwed up some stuff in this episode but the nailed that wedding.
Yeah, I kind of disliked most of the non-King’s Landing stuff in this episode. Roose dressing-down Ramsay was pretty cool, but pretty much everything else. Didn’t care for the Tyrion-Shae scene, either. I’m not really a fan of her character, but I hope she isn’t really going out like that.
@JJ Jr. She’s not, if you are a book reader than you already know how she goes out, if you aren’t then don’t sweat it. She goes out in a much more satisfying way,
This season is still simply “off”, after two episodes lots of shit just crammed together, I haven’t even read the stupid books, but I can see they’re just slamming shit into each other without explanation. So far through episode two , son I am still dissapoint.
Here, let me pour you a glass of wine….please, continue.
I thought the last 10 minutes of the last two episodes was some of the tensest that GoT has done in its four seasons.
Really? As another non-book-reader, I feel like the show is fucking ON right now. This episode packed a wallop even ignoring all the wedding stuff. I realized this episode that what this show does really well is straight on melodrama. But not in a bad way. All the little interpersonal conflict is so well done every time. It’s like the best a soap opera could be, if that makes any sense. The awesome battles, tits, and kills are just HBO icings on the cake for me.
You sure seem to be well-acquainted with disappointment. I get the impression that it follows you wherever you go.
I haven’t even read the stupid books, but I’m going to complain about the show as if I did
To each their own.
Or should that be “most tense?” Hell. I dunno. I’m five scotches in.
At five Scotches, it’s “most tenserest.”
“Go drink until it feels like you did the right pronunciation.”
So, not really relevant to the specific topic at hand, but did anyone else think the lady-hunter with Ramsay looked a lot like Gillian Jacobs? Were both of the women in that scene supposed to be the same ones who raped Theon last season?
I thought they were the same woman from last season. I can see the Gillian Jacobs, but I wouldn’t say a lot.
Not sure about the actress but I do think it was the two girls from Theon’s Worst Day Ever last season.
I better be seeing a lot of Ser Pounce now.
We need more Hound!
+1 , always more hound
So wait that means no wedding leftovers right??
I knew it was coming, but goddamn it was still satisfying. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed watching a TV character die as much as I did Joffrey.
best dressed dead man in Westeros.
