George Clooney Heard About The Brangelina Split Mid-Interview And Was Just As Sad As The Rest Of Us

It’s a profound question explored through the ages by great poets and Access Hollywood personalities alike: Celebrities, are they really just like us? Are their mortal bodies vulnerable to extreme heat and cold? Do they suffer seasonal allergies? Are they afraid of the dark? Can sticks and stones break their bones? Can names ever hurt them?

Multiple sources are reporting news of the impending divorce of philanthropic power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Family friend George Clooney expressed a very human reaction today after learning of the separation mid-interview. Following a United Nations roundtable discussion concerning the Syrian refugee crisis, the activist and leading man was asked about his thoughts on the split.

“I didn’t know that. Wow,” he told CNN. Visibly blindsided by the news, Clooney appeared uncomfortable while putting together words of sympathy. “I feel very sorry then. That’s a sad story and unfortunate for a family. This is the first I’ve heard of it,” he reiterated.

Clooney and Pitt filmed Ocean’s Eleven together back in 2001 and have been close friends since. Clooney’s shock suggests very few, if any, members of Brangelina’s inner circle were aware of the pair’s marital troubles. More importantly, his near palpable sadness, and the flawed humanity in his voice, remind us that we share at least a few human mechanisms with the Beautiful People.
