Mavericks Rookie A.J. Hammons Made This Massive One-Handed Alley-Oop Look Simple

Dallas rookie A.J. Hammons had a reputation during his college days for being a big man who was capable of the amazing when he was on his game. He was apparently locked in during Dallas’ game against Denver on Monday night, which he showed by throwing down the smoothest one-handed alley-oop that you’ll ever see.

Hammons set a screen on Jameer Nelson, which gave J.J. Barea some room to head towards the rim. Barea was cut off by Kenneth Faried, but this gave Hammons a clear path to the rim. All Barea had to do was throw the ball up towards the Hammons and the former Purdue big man was going to have an easy bucket.

Instead, Barea decided to get a little fancy, which was almost a bad idea. He lobbed the ball up for an alley-oop, and the only way Hammons was able to convert was if he grabbed it with one hand and threw down. He did that, and while this was a super difficult play – it’s not every day you see a one-handed alley-oop while the guy is falling away from the hoop – Hammons made this play look easy.

Hammons hasn’t done too much for the Mavs this season, but if he keeps doing cool stuff like this, it’s going to be hard for Rick Carlisle to keep him out of the rotation.
