The Celtics Are Reportedly Eyeing Blake Griffin In A Blockbuster Trade

With free agency all but complete, you might think the NBA is set to chill out and let you turn off your Twitter notifications until October. But, well, hey: Don’t do that.

As Sean Deveney of Sporting News reveals in a recent report, multiple competing front office executives believe the Boston Celtics are looking to trade for Los Angeles Clippers superstar Blake Griffin. The 27-year-old has been rumored as a trade piece ever since he was suspended by the Clippers for a violent altercation with a team employee this past season, but little in the way of true juiciness has emerged from those whispers.

According to Deveney, the possible blockbuster deal would involve the Sacramento Kings as well, and yield the Clippers beleaguered small forward Rudy Gay, who recently requested a trade of his own. This, of all things, seems to be what is perking Clippers general manager Doc Rivers’ ears.

It’s also written that the Celtics would prefer not to give up their rights to the Brooklyn Nets’ first-round pick in either 2017 or 2018. This is a bit of information that makes NBA insiders everywhere want to strangle Boston general manger Danny Ainge, who can’t possibly think he can bring in a player of Griffin’s stature without surrendering either of those ultra-valuable assets.

If he does, though? We all have to turn our strangles into congratulatory hugs. More on this story as it develops.
